Accelerating Malawi’s Economic Growth
The Pur­pose of the Roads Author­i­ty shall be to
  • Ensure that pub­lic roads are con­struct­ed, main­tained or reha­bil­i­tat­ed at all times 
  • Advise the Min­is­ter and, where appro­pri­ate, the Min­is­ter respon­si­ble for Local Gov­ern­ment on the prepa­ra­tion and the effi­cient and effec­tive imple­men­ta­tion of the annu­al nation­al roads pro­gram referred to in sec­tion 22 of the Roads Author­i­ty Act.
In order to ful­fil its man­date the Roads Author­i­ty devel­ops and reviews its strate­gic plans to match the changes in the envi­ron­ment in which it oper­ates and also to ever be respon­sive to the demands of the Malawi Econ­o­my for a Good Road net­work infra­struc­ture. The Roads Author­i­ty Five Year Strate­gic Plan 2017–2022outlines the Strate­gic Out­comes to be achieved by Year 2022. The Strate­gic Out­comes cov­er areas of Road Main­te­nance, Road Con­struc­tion, Plan­ning and Design and Improv­ing Oper­a­tion effi­cien­cy just to men­tion a few. The Exec­u­tive Sum­ma­ry of Roads Author­i­ty Five Year Strate­gic and Busi­ness Plan (2017–2022)gives a glimpse of the whole strate­gic plan and the sta­tus of the cur­rent Road Net­work in Malawi and what RA intends to achieve in the five year plan­ning peri­od.
