The Purpose of the Roads Authority shall be to
- Ensure that public roads are constructed, maintained or rehabilitated at all times
- Advise the Minister and, where appropriate, the Minister responsible for Local Government on the preparation and the efficient and effective implementation of the annual national roads program referred to in section 22 of the Roads Authority Act.
In order to fulfil its mandate the Roads Authority develops and reviews its strategic plans to match the changes in the environment in which it operates and also to ever be responsive to the demands of the Malawi Economy for a Good Road network infrastructure.
The Roads Authority Five Year Strategic Plan 2017–2022outlines the Strategic Outcomes to be achieved by Year 2022. The Strategic Outcomes cover areas of Road Maintenance, Road Construction, Planning and Design and Improving Operation efficiency just to mention a few.
